The government is in the final stages of establishing a carbon trading system that will minimise emission of greenhouse gases by companies through incentives.
National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani said the State is finalising the establishment of the Kenya Emissions Trading System (KETS) which will oversee the trading.
Yatani said once established, companies and other organisations, will be able to buy emission allowance.
“Thereby enable Kenya to meet her commitments in limiting greenhouse emissions through this certification of emission credits,” he said.
“This system will be managed through the soon to be established National Carbon Credits and Green Assets Registry.”
UAE Council for Climate Change and Environment reviews local carbon emissions reduction efforts
DUBAI, 9th May, 2021 (WAM) A group of specialised entities from the UAE Council for Climate Change and Environment held a special meeting to discuss the country’s drive to curb carbon emissions across all sectors, and the ways of stepping up these efforts.
Dr Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment and President of the Council, highlighted the importance of boosting synergies to get the UAE on track towards an increased emissions reduction and achieving the global carbon neutrality commitment outlined in the Paris Agreement.

A committee seeks to examine government’s pension stewardship ahead of COP26 climate conference.
The UK Parliament’s Work and Pensions Committee has launched an inquiry into the British government’s approach to making sure pensions consider climate risk and the role plans can play in meeting greenhouse gas reduction targets.
Based on a now-closed consultation issued at the beginning of the year, the UK government is expected to issue regulations this summer for pension plans on how to manage climate risk before the COP26 climate conference formally known as the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, Scotland, in November. The summit is intended to bring together countries to work toward achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
