The highest chamber of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has delivered a blow to anti-surveillance campaigners in Europe by failing to find that bulk interception of digital comms is inherently incompatible with human rights law which enshrines individual rights to privacy and freedom of expression. Governments in Europe that fail to do so are opening such laws up to further legal challenge under the European Convention on Human Rights. The Grand Chamber ruling also confirms that the UK's historic surveillance regime under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (aka RIPA) was unlawful because it lacked the necessary safeguards.

(Alliance News) - Amigo Holdings PLC said Tuesday the UK High Court has not approved the guarantor loans provider s scheme to settle compensation claims.
Shares in the Bournemouth-based provider of guarantor loans sunk by 50% in response in London on Tuesday to 9.31 pence. The stock traded at 276.00p less than two years ago.
At the end of December, Amigo pursued the use of a scheme of arrangement, in order to attain certainty on the total liabilities which arise from customer complaints.
It believed that a scheme would prove to be the best vehicle for addressing customer redress claims, but admitted that the plan would not allow all claims arising from unaffordable lending to be paid in full.

Mehul Choksi, the 62-year-old fugitive diamantaire wanted by the CBI and Enforcement Directorate in connection with a 14,000 crore PNB loan fraud and money-laundering case, has gone missing in Antigua and Barbuda, a Caribbean island nation where he fled in 2018.
Vijay Aggarwal, Mr. Choksi’s lawyer, has confirmed on Tuesday morning that his client is missing and that his family is looking for him. He also stated that Antiguan police had launched a manhunt for him.
According to Antigua Newsroom, Police Commissioner Atlee Rodney stated that his officers were “following up on the whereabouts of Indian businessman Mehul Choksi.”
The media reports have stated that Choksi left his home Monday evening to go to dinner at a restaurant in the island’s south. He hasn’t been seen or heard from since. His vehicle was later discovered, but there was no sign of him, according to local news outlets.
