Notable deaths in conservation in 2020

It is impossible to capture all of 2020’s losses.
Every death is of course notable, but this list acknowledges a few of the 2020 deaths that carry special significance to the conservation community.
The list is grouped into three categories: murders and killings, reportedly COVID-19-related, and other deaths.
Note: this list only includes deaths that occurred in 2020.
It is impossible to capture all of 2020’s losses between the global pandemic, the impacts of natural disasters often exacerbated by human activities, and the atrocities committed against environmental defenders.
Every death is of course notable, but this list acknowledges a few of the 2020 deaths that carry special significance to the conservation community.
The New Year will continue with spells of good sunshine interspersed with some heavy, wintry showers.
Met Éireann has two Status Yellow weather alerts scheduled to end today – with a snow and ice warning in place for eight counties and a wind warning in place for seven others.
The snow and ice warning remains in place until 7am for Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Longford, Louth, Leitrim, Roscommon and Sligo.
A wind warning remains in place until 2pm for Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Cork and Kerry.
Irish coastal waters are also the focus of a Status Orange gale warning with winds reaching up to Storm Force 10.

Met Éireann warned: “With the combination of strong winds, high waves and forecasted storm surge, there is a risk of coastal flooding along the west coast.”

Hundreds of homes in Co Cork are without power as Storm Bella impacts Ireland.
According to RTÉ and referencing ESB s PowerCheck website, power outages have been reported in Dunmanway and Curraleigh with 872 homes affected.
The majority of power outages in other parts of the country are reported across the west of Ireland in Co Mayo and in the Munster counties of Kerry and Clare.
SNOW WARNING: Snow and ice warning issued for parts of Ireland

Met Eireann has issued a snow and ice warning for eight counties and a wind warning for parts of the country.
Longford, Cavan, Managhan, Donegal, Louth, Leitrim, Roscommon and Sligo are all at risk of snow and ice tonight, with wintry showers expected.
The warning is in place until 7am tomorrow morning, Monday, December 28.
The UK Met Office has also issued a Yellow Snow and Ice Warning for Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone, Derry.
There is also a Status Yellow Wind Warning for Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Cork and Kerry
