Nigeria is to benefit from United Kingdom’s £22 million new investment to build cybersecurity resilience in developing countries globally, particularly Africa and Indo-Pacific. UK’s Foreign Secretary, Dominic Raab, who made the announcement at the National Cyber Security Centre’s CYBERUK conference, yesterday, stressed that the British government would spend about £3 million of the fund to help the INTERPOL set up a new team that could fight cybercrime in Africa. x Raab said the new INTERPOL desk would work across Nigeria, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya and Rwanda creating a regional strategy to support joint operations against cybercrime and strengthening African states’ capability to combat the menace and perpetrators.

Put simply: they endanger the health and lives of vulnerable women and girls worldwide. We join our many partners in calling for these dangerous cuts to be restored. The announced £5billion reduction to the UK aid spending comes at a time when the global pandemic has exposed the fragility of health systems. Long before COVID-19, overstretched health systems were plagued by understaffing, stockouts, poor infrastructure and lack of resources. The pandemic has both magnified these issues while further exacerbating inequities, particularly for women and girls.

According to the UN Information Centre, Islamabad, this UK-funded initiative will help enhance Pakistan’s trade diversification and integration into the global value chains. The International Trade Centre (ITC) will implement the revenue mobilisation, investment and trade (REMIT) programme. The five-million-pound sterling project will run from 2020 to 2024. These efforts are part of a larger UK-supported REMIT programme aimed at contributing to sustainable and inclusive economic development in Pakistan.

UK-based doctors of Indian heritage are deploying telemedicine to their colleagues in the coronavirus-stricken nation to help them battle the escalating crisis there. India is one of the worst-hit countries in the world, recording a new global record of 401,993 new cases on Saturday – taking its total number to 19.1 million. Another 3,523 people died of the disease in the past 24 hours.
