Cumbria’s highways chief is backing a call for fair funding for rural public services to ensure areas can benefit from a shift away from city life.
Rural areas are poised to play a key role in building back better if the Government adopts an approach that sees âparity of investment in core public services and growth-enhancing investmentâ, MPs, peers and other delegates told a conference earlier this week while warning that Britainâs post-Covid recovery risked being weakened by poor connectivity and other challenges across key regions of the country.

Jenrick welcomes Budget package to level up communities and support the nation’s recovery from the pandemic
A package to support our economic recovery from the pandemic, level up communities, and help vulnerable people has been welcomed by the Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick.
From:
4 March 2021
The measures were unveiled by the Chancellor as part of yesterday’s Budget which set out how the nation will build back better from the pandemic, level up opportunity and prosperity in communities across the UK, as well as help more families on to the housing ladder.
The Budget underlines the government’s immediate priority of helping communities prosper again by supporting jobs and business as we emerge from the pandemic, in line with the Prime Minister’s Roadmap.
