Green recovery could deliver 1.2 million construction and manufacturing jobs
More than one million green manufacturing and construction jobs could be created in the UK, if the Government introduced enabling policies, new data has found.
UK100 estimates that more than three million jobs are expected to be created as part of a national shift to the green economy
New analysis published by UK100, a group of over 100 mayors and local government leaders, suggests that up to 1.2 million jobs could be created across manufacturing and construction if the UK Government were to commit to a green recovery.

Is funding in place for radical investment in carbon neutral?
Main takeaways:
Planning requirements across the country need to be tightened to promote carbon neutral development
Developers and investors are increasingly interested in carbon neutral but still need big exemplars to follow
Skills are as big a concern as funding for making carbon neutral happen by the deadlines set

A complex puzzle : UKGBC launches guide on procuring renewable energy and carbon offsets
Slashing the carbon emissions of the UK s building stock is among the biggest obstacles facing the country as it races to reach net-zero
The guide responds to findings published at the end of last year that the bulk of new renewable energy purchases in the UK are having little impact on the country s overall carbon emissions
Construction and property management firms seeking to step up their efforts to slash the climate impact of Britain s building sector can draw on new guidance today, as the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC).
Karl Tomusk
The UK Green Building Council has published “vital” guidance on ensuring that net-zero buildings and organisations in the UK are truly sustainable, setting out principles around high-quality renewable energy procurement and carbon offsets.
The guidance seeks to ensure that organisations and buildings make credible net-zero claims and avoid “greenwashing” – giving the impression of being environmentally conscious without making a meaningful difference.
Renewable energy is among the key themes in the report, which argues that the procurement of green energy in the UK has a limited impact and, in some cases, no impact at all on emissions reductions for the organisation or for the country.
