International arrivals will face a 10-day mandatory quarantine period in a government approved hotel (Image: Getty Images) Ministers have been accused of being too slow to act after it was announced that new coronavirus quarantine hotels will not come into force until mid-February.
The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) said that, from February 15, travellers returning to the UK from “red list” countries will have to quarantine in a government-approved facility for 10 days.
The government originally announced last week it would be tightening the rules following the emergence of mutant new strains of the virus in South Africa and Brazil.

Continued decline in number of cases deemed key to getting out of lockdown
The United Kingdom s vaccines minister has suggested the economy in England could be unlocked on a gradual basis after the proposed return of schools early next month.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson is due to reveal his roadmap out of the current lockdown on Feb 22, as a part of which schools are likely to start reopening from March 8, and Nadhim Zahawi told Sky News that the plan is for the economy to follow suit, as the vaccine given to priority cases starts to take full effect.

The New Zealand government has been contacted by UK health officials for advice around their quarantine hotel system as the UK prepares to run a similar scheme for Brits returning from high risk countries.
The request for discussions with New Zealand officials comes as UK Hospitality, the trade body representing the country s hotels, said as of today they had no information on how the system might work and leading hotel chains around Heathrow airport told PoliticsHome they have not been contacted to assist in any type of scheme so far.
