The founder of The Wave artificial surfing lake has been named the new chair of Surfing England. Nick Hounsfield, who opened The Wave in Easter Compton in 2019, has been appointed chair of the board of directors at the national governing body for surfing. He takes the reigns at an exciting time for the sport, with surfing set to make its Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020. UK Sport have also invested £1.35m to support the development of a world class performance pathway for British Surfing. “Having been a surfer for 42 years, I really understand the unique culture around surfing, said Nick. It’s critically important to retain all that is great about the sport as we grow it from grass roots up to elite level.
