The UK will provide new funding to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees UNRWA to help provide food, water, and emergency shelter to Palestinians affected by the recent escalation in violence in Gaza, the UK’s Minister for the Middle East James Cleverly announced today (20 May 2021).
The UK support comes as UNRWA launches an emergency appeal calling for urgent support to meet immediate humanitarian needs. Existing UK aid to UNRWA is already helping the Agency to provide food supplies to more than one million refugees in Gaza this year.

Sudan’s debt arrears to the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the African Development Bank (ADB) have been cleared, further paving the way for Sudan’s re-entry into the international financial community, and for Sudan’s economic recovery. In a statement yesterday following the session of the Paris Conference dealing with Sudan’s international debt (currently estimated at around $80 billion), Sudan’s Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok said that this step opens the door wide for the deserved return of Sudan to the international community.

The International Criminal Police Organisation, INTERPOL, is creating a new cybercrime operations desk with UK funding to boost the capacity of 49 African countries to fight cybercrime.
In a statement, the agency said the Africa desk will help shape a regional strategy to drive intelligence-led coordinated actions against cybercriminals and support joint operations.
Speaking at the CYBERUK conference in London, UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said: “We are working with like-minded partners, to make sure that the international order that governs cyber activity is fit for purpose.
