When Women Lead.
Where women are involved in politics, they are often already leading the fight against climate change. Research by the IPU in 2020 identified that environment and energy portfolios were now the primary ministerial portfolios held by women. A broad body of research suggests that women’s political leadership is tied to positive environmental outcomes. For example:
At the national and international level, countries with more women parliamentarians are more likely to ratify environment treaties and set aside more land for conservation.
At the community level, in India and Nepal, forest management groups that included women showed better resource governance and conservation outcomes.

(CCREEE), Press Release
4 May, 2021|Bridgetown, Barbados – Last November, the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE) launched the private sector stream of the Project Preparation Facility (PPF) and today, the Centre kicked-off the public sector stream with a roundtable discussion.
Several high-level participants with focal areas ranging from energy and finance, to climate resilience and youth spoke under the theme, The Energy and Climate Nexus: Meeting Targets and Goals through Project Development. Among these was Barbados’ Energy Permanent Secretary and Chairperson of the CCREEE Executive Board, Mrs Francine Blackman, who in responding to a question from the moderator noted that, “for us in Barbados, the 2008 oil crisis and a deteriorating fiscal position with close to 800 mil spent annually to purchase oil, the government made a decision to use more of the natural resources around us.”
Piñon Midstream Building 85 MMcf/d Sour Gas Treatment, Carbon Capture Facility in Permian Delaware
Piñon Midstream LLC has begun construction of a sour gas treating and carbon capture facility in Lea County, NM, that when completed in July would have capacity to treat about 85 MMcf/d of Permian Basin natural gas.
The plant, dubbed the Dark Horse Facility, would treat gas produced in the Permian’s Delaware sub-basin. The project is anchored by “a substantial long-term dedication” from Ameredev II LLC, a privately held independent exploration and production company active in the area.
Founded in December, Piñon aims “to provide a long-term, economic and environmentally responsible solution to the pervasive sour gas problem that has constrained development in the northeastern Delaware Basin,” the company said.

Key Points:
On Earth Day, the Biden-Harris administration announced a new target for the United States to achieve a 50 to 52 percent reduction in economy-wide GHG emissions by 2030, which constitutes the country’s new NDC under the Paris Agreement.
To achieve the new NDC, the United States envisions a “whole-of-government” approach to catalyze opportunities for businesses to partner with the federal government to rapidly transform the power, transportation, buildings, industrial and agriculture and lands sectors.
The close partisan split in Congress likely will force the administration to rely on a combination of agency regulation and other executive actions to demonstrate progress toward achieving the NDC.
