GUWAHATI: Police launched a crackdown at the residence of BPF candidate for Kokrajhar East constituency Pramila Rani Brahma on Sunday night to probe allegations of cash distribution after the end of campaigning for the third phase of elections.
Kokrajhar SP Rakesh Roushan on Monday told the media that police raided her residence after “receiving” information that a big crowd had gathered at her residence, violating the model code of conduct (MCC), where cash was allegedly distributed.
“About 1,000 people were gathered at her residence. We asked the crowd to disperse as Section 144 CrPC was in force in the district. There was no cooperation from the side of BPF candidate Pramila Rani Brahma and her party people during our raid. They have misbehaved with us including one more IPS official. Guwahati, Apr 6 (IANS): Tuesday s third and final phase of polling in 40 of the 126-member Assam Assembly is a litmus test for both the ruling BJP-led alliance and the opposition Congress-led Mahajot (grand alliance).
Of the 40 Assembly segments, bordering Bhutan, West Bengal and Arunachal Pradesh, at least 13 seats are Muslim majority, six reserved for the tribals and two reserved for the people belonging to the scheduled caste.
Tuesday s electoral battle in 12 districts, according to the political experts, would be decisive for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the main opposition Congress as both the parties had won 11 seats each in the 2016 Assembly polls.

New Delhi, April 6 : Voting for the crucial third phase of Assembly polls in Assam and West Bengal, and the single phase elections in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry, ended on Tuesday with all the major political parties BJP, Trinamool Congress, Congress, AIADMK and Left having high stakes.
Polling was held for 475 seats in five states/UT, including 31 seats in West Bengal, 40 in Assam, 234 in Tamil Nadu, 140 in Kerala and 30 in Puducherry.
