The Congress had earlier formed Grand Alliance with AIUDF, CPI, CPI(M), CPI(ML) and Anchalik Gana Morcha (AGM) to fight the Assembly polls against the BJP-helmed National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Just a month ahead of the Assam Assembly polls, in a significant political development on Saturday, ruling Bharatiya Janata Party s (BJP) estranged ally Bodoland People s Front (BPF) has announced to snap ties with the party and has joined Congress led grand alliance to fight the assembly polls.

Ahead of the upcoming Assam assembly elections, the Bodoland People s Front (BPF) on Saturday announced it has severed all ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and joined Congress-led Grand Alliance.
Taking to Twitter, BPF president Hagrama Mohilary said, To work for Peace, Unity and Development the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) has decided to join hands with MAHAJATH in the forthcoming Assam Assembly Election. We shall no longer maintain friendship or alliance with BJP.
BPF had won 12 seats in the 2016 assembly polls in the state.
