(Reuters) – The United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) says it wants more flexible rules for athletes who test positive for cannabis after the White House was reported to be seeking a meeting with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to discuss easing restrictions.
The debate over cannabis use by athletes was reignited after American sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson tested positive for the drug last month at the U.S. Olympic Track & Field trials.

Sha’Carri Richardson will not run in the women’s 100 metres at the delayed Olympic Games in Tokyo after accepting a one-month ban from June 28 following a positive test for marijuana on June 19 – the day she won the event at the United States Olympic Team trials in Eugene, Oregon.
The women’s 100m event starts on July 30, two days after Richardson’s minimum ban ends, but the adverse finding means her Olympic qualifying results at the trials, which offer places only to the first three qualified athletes in each event, are annulled.
It is unclear whether the 21-year-old from Texas might yet be selected for the 4x100m relay event, where the US team is composed of the first four at the trials plus two discretionary picks.

(Reuters) – American Sha’Carri Richardson will not compete at the Diamond League in Stockholm on Sunday, where she had been expected to run in the 200m, according to the event’s entry list.
Richardson, 21, is the U.S. women’s 100m champion and is expected to be a big draw at this summer’s Tokyo Olympics.
It is not clear why Richardson is not competing. Her manager did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
