How a Masters Runner Set Three American Records in Two Days

It took a little more than 24 hours for 61-year-old Dan King to rewrite the men’s outdoor track record book in his age group.
On December 11, at the Five and Dime meet in Columbia, South Carolina, King ran the mile in 4:52.68, shaving 0.33 seconds off the existing 60–64 record of 4:53.01, set by Nolan Shaheed in 2012.

The following day, King stepped on the track for the 5,000 meters and finished in 16:48.67, which bettered the previous mark (16:52.00) that had stood since 1985. King averaged 5:24 per mile pace. En route to the 5,000 record, King passed 3,000 meters in 9:58.77, making it three records on the weekend. (The previously held record for the distance, which is rarely run outdoors, was 10:07.58. One of the most decorated high school athletes in Chautauqua County high school history now knows where he will spend his next four years.
John Swabik signed a national letter of intent Wednesday night to attend the University of Colorado at Boulder to run track and field for the Buffaloes.
“Colorado has been talking to me for a solid three or four months,” Swabik said Thursday evening. “I’m happy that I’ve made my decision and I can kind of put that college search behind me. That’s been really stressful and put a lot of weight on my shoulders.”

Richton Park, IL-(ENEWSPF)- Three Southland College Prep Charter High School seniors earned a cumulative total of nearly $ 1 million in four-year full scholarships to top universities from the QuestBridge National College Match Program.
The three Southland College Prep seniors, Kevin Carter, Kamaria Gutter and Bri’Yon Watts, were selected among 1,464 finalists out of 18,500 applicants to earn full four-year scholarships, including room and board, books and supplies, fees and travel expenses with no loans to Brown University, Washington University and Duke University respectively.
