Car Theft Capitals of the United States (2021)

By Insurify Jan 27, 2021 While car theft has somewhat decreased over the last decade, in some cities, cars are still stolen at alarmingly high rates. Last year, 721,885 vehicles were reported stolen in the United States, according to the Insurance Information Institute (III). If spread evenly across the year, nearly 2,000 would occur each day. Although considerably lower than in the 1990s when automotive theft reached its peak, the rate of car theft has hardly changed over the last decade. In fact, car thefts last year were down only 2.4 percent since 2010. The coronavirus pandemic has also provoked significant changes in driving habits over the past year. Many people are driving less due to shelter in place orders throughout the nation. With cars left idle for longer periods, drivers across the country are left more vulnerable to automotive theft than ever before; in fact, many thieves will steal a car right out of the owner’s driveway.

Price student plans to lead Bell Gardens in community reform

Chavez was interested in policy and government since his graduation from Bell Gardens High School in 2015. (Photo courtesy of Jorgel Chavez) As Jorgel Chavez begins another semester of online learning at the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy, he faces a new challenge far different from readjusting to Zoom classes and speaking with prospective students as a Price student ambassador: governing the people of Bell Gardens. In November, Chavez won the election for Councilmember of Bell Gardens by a margin of 899 votes. He successfully ran against four challengers for two seats, including 21-year incumbent Pedro Aceituno.   Chavez, who didn’t make any promises throughout his grassroots campaign, told constituents that “I’m not the trustee, I’m the delegate.” His campaign platform looked to tackle homelessness and community safety while maintaining transparency throughout the process.

Colorado Country Band the Barlow Drops Horseshoe Lounge

Shea Boynton has worked in Colorado’s oil and gas industry for the past few years, which means he spends a lot of nights in hotel rooms away from what most people would call a healthy nightlife. Boynton, who pens most of the songs for local band The Barlow, has written a lot about his personal experiences. But when that particular well began to run dry, he turned to books for inspiration. “I was reading a lot of books, especially working in the oil fields,” Boynton says. “I was reading all the time, especially at night. The hotel has nothing to do. I started realizing I could extract these songs and make them into stories, and it didn’t have to be about me.”

Letters to the editor for Jan 27, 2021

Letters to the editor for Jan. 27, 2021 Daily Commercial Support the Hospital Board I urge all people of good will to speak up against a potential health care crisis in Lake County. Anthony Sabatini, who represents part of Lake County in the Florida House of Representatives, has filed a bill (HB 257) seeking to overrule the will of voters and slash funding for medical care for thousands of Lake County residents. The proposed bill would end the North Lake County Hospital District Board and the funds it distributes for indigent care to local mental health clinics, urgent care centers and hospitals.  In a 2016 referendum, 59% of Lake County voters approved the continuation of the board and its taxing authority for another 10 years. Sabatini refuses to honor that vote because he does not like taxes. The board currently collects a tax of less than $1 for every $1,000 in real estate value, after exemptions. Lake County tax records show that Sabatini lives in a house in Howey-in-the-H

Los Angeles Billboard Has A Shocking Message For New Yorkers

Los Angeles Billboard Has A Shocking Message For New Yorkers We know many New Yorkers have been moving out of the state for years, and now the COVID-19 pandemic is only exacerbating the plight. But if you were thinking about relocating to the nation s second largest city, then you might want to think again. Are some folks living in Los Angeles not very welcoming to outsiders? Or, is there a little more to this story? It s kind of hard not to envy California s sunny and mild climate, especially during the middle of a northeast winter. But one giant billboard that went up Monday over Sunset Boulevard isn t exactly rolling out the welcome matt for those fleeing New York. But the NY Post reports that the sign is actually the work of an group of artists out of Brooklyn called The Locker Room NYC. The message?
