PIERRE The deadline has arrived for those seeking relief for past-due rent, mortgage or utilities due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The state of South Dakota has allocated $10 million to the South Dakota Housing Development Authority for CARES Act funding to assist cash-strapped folks that are struggling to pay housing expenses or have overdue payments and late fees from March through December 2020.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention moratorium on evictions expires Dec. 31 and applications are due Dec. 18 for funding of a maximum amount of $1,500 per month that would be paid directly to landlords, mortgage lenders or utility companies.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) maintains a database of reported PAM cases in the United States since 1962, cataloging information about dates, locations, and suspected exposures (

In 1978, CDC established its Free-living Ameba Laboratory, which increased the national capacity for clinical testing and contributed to an increase in the number of reported PAM cases in the United States. We analyzed to PAM cases reported in the USA during 1978–2018 with known or suspected recreational water exposure in a lake, pond, reservoir, river, stream, or outdoor aquatic venue.

Hoosiers are struggling. Families do not have enough to cover basic needs while financial assistance programs are being eliminated. Recent surveys conducted by Indiana Universityâs OâNeill School of Public and Environmental Affairs inform us that 17 percent of families cannot pay their utility bills, with Black and Hispanic families hardest hit.
The U.S.Census Bureau reports that nearly 30% of Hoosier households are struggling to meet basic household expenses. At the same time, data compiled by the National Energy Assistance Directorsâ Association shows that utility debt is growing significantly as we are heading into the winter heating season. Total utility debt is expected to be more than $24 billion by the end of this year, which is more than three times what it was last year.
