Gov Beshear Appoints Phillip Burnett Jr as commissioner of Kentucky State Police

Col. Phillip Burnett Picasa On April 9, Gov. Andy Beshear announced the appointment of Col. Phillip Burnett Jr. as commissioner of the Kentucky State Police (KSP). “I believe in Commissioner Burnett’s ability to lead KSP into the future,” said Gov. Beshear. “He is already working to increase recruitment and create a more diverse workforce, which is crucial to fulfilling our state’s law enforcement duties.” During a ceremony at the Capitol, with his family in attendance, Justice and Public Safety Cabinet Secretary Mary C. Noble swore in Commissioner Burnett. Commissioner Burnett pledged to continue working with communities across the commonwealth to protect and serve Kentuckians with honor and dignity.

2021 Season of Museum s First Person: Conversations with Holocaust Survivors Begins April 14 — United States Holocaust Memorial Museum

  BEGINS APRIL 14 WASHINGTON, DC – The 2021 season of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum’s First Person: Conversations with Holocaust Survivors series launches Wednesday, April 14 at 1 pm.  Now in its 22nd season, First Person enables audiences to hear Holocaust survivors tell their life stories in their own words, uniting personal experience with history in a way that is extraordinary in its immediacy and power. Each hour-long program will feature a live interview between journalist Bill Benson and a survivor, followed by a question-and-answer session with the audience.  This year the program will be hosted monthly on YouTube Live(link)  beginning in April through December.  

Western Fashion Brands Sued for Using Forced Labor in China

The suit accuses Spain-based Inditex (whose brands include Zara, Bershka, Massimo Dutti, Oysho, Pull and Bear and Stradivarius), France-based SMCP (comprised of Parisian brands, Sandro, Maje, Claudie Pierlot and De Fursac), U.S.-based footwear company Skechers, and the U.S. subsidiary of the Japanese fashion retailer Uniqlo, of being accomplices in serious crimes, including concealment of the crime of forced labor, the crime of organized human trafficking, the crime of genocide and crimes against humanity. The plaintiffs are asking the French judiciary to rule on the possible criminal liability of the companies. The stated aim is to end impunity for the brands, which are accused of offloading on their subcontractors their responsibility for human rights.
