Auschwitz-Birkenau It is the largest concentration, forced labor, and systematic massacre and extermination camp established by Nazi Germany in the Final Solution plan. Between 1940 and 1945, a total of 1.3 million people among them 1 million Jews, were imprisoned from Europe to Auschwitz-Birkenau.  (1) 1.1 million people of these were predicted to be killed with 960,000 (2) Jews.  Approximately 900,000 people were killed directly in the gas chambers or by shooting as soon as they arrived at the camp. Gov Wolf, lawmakers to join clergy in observing Holocaust Remembrance

Survivors, religious leaders and dignitaries from Pennsylvania will come together virtually to commemorate and reflect upon the Holocaust this Thursday. In an effort to share their experiences across the commonwealth while safeguarding the health of health of participants and the community as a whole during the pandemic, the Pennsylvania Jewish Coalition – has opted to host the 2021 Pennsylvania Civic Commemoration of the Holocaust as an online event at 11 a.m. on April 8. This Thursday marks Holocaust Remembrance Day, which falls on the 27th day of Nisan on the Hebrew calendar, and coincides with the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. In Hebrew, the day is known as Yom Hashoah.
