Man shot by sheriff s deputy on I-10 in Whitewater IDd as Gabriel Munoz

The Riverside County Coroner s Office has released the identity of the man fatally shot by a sheriff s deputy on Interstate 10 in Whitewater on April 9.  The incident and subsequent investigation caused significant traffic delays for more than seven hours on I-10 and other Coachella Valley roadways. The sheriff s department said the incident began when the man, Gabriel Munoz Jr., 40, of Cathedral City, broke the driver-side window of a passing vehicle traveling east of Whitewater Canyon Road.  California Highway Patrol officers were dispatched to the scene around 8:47 a.m., but a Riverside County Sheriff s Department K-9 deputy in the area saw a man vandalizing a vehicle stopped in the road on Whitewater Cutoff using objects such as a tire iron.

A bail agent, who illegally carried a weapon and broke into a Palm Springs man s home early Friday, has been arrested after fatally shooting the man, authorities say.  The Riverside County Sheriff s Department announced Saturday that the bail agent, Fabian Herrera, 36, was not properly licensed and had a criminal history that should have prevented him from possessing a firearm.
