Weightlifting Running Out of Time Federation Focus 02/24/21
(ATR) The IOC appears to have run out of patience with the International Weightlifting Federation.

IOC President Thomas Bach, speaking after the latest Executive Board (EB) meeting on Feb. 24, said the situation with the IWF is “becoming more and more grave” and that the federation faces the possibility of being thrown out of the Olympic program if it doesn t act now to repair its governance and anti-doping failures.
“The EB expressed its extreme concern particularly by the lack of significant changes with regard to the management and the culture there in IWF,” Bach says.
Archery and Muaythai Added to European Games 2023 02/25/21
The European Games Kraków-MaÅ‚opolska 2023 will showcase the continent’s top athletes in a range of Olympic and non-Olympic sports, including archery and muaythai, the latest additions to the programme of the third edition of Europe’s leading multisport event.
Archery will be making its third straight appearance at the European Games, while muaythai, also known as Thai Boxing, will make its European Games debut in 2023.
“The European Games give our continent’s elite athletes in popular non-Olympic sports the chance to compete at the highest level and showcase their exceptional talents to a wider audience, said Acting President of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) Niels Nygaard. We are excited to offer a strong mix of both with the inclusion of archery and muaythai on the 2023 programme today.”

For the fourth time in less than four months the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has strongly criticised the way weightlifting is governed.
Thomas Bach, the IOC president, spoke out after learning that the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) had changed its anti-doping rules without consulting the IOC.

The most significant change was a new threshold - four doping violations rather than three - for punishing nations with multiple offences within a year.
The IWF Board also voted to remove any reference to bringing weightlifting into disrepute , an offence which was punishable with a two-year suspension under the old rules.

EOC adds badminton to European Games Krakow-Malopolska 2023 01/19/21
The European Olympic Committees (EOC) is pleased to announce that badminton is the latest sport to be added to the programme of the European Games Kraków-MaÅ‚opolska 2023.
An agreement was reached today between the EOC and Badminton Europe at the House of Sport in Copenhagen, with EOC Acting President Niels Nygaard and Badminton Europe General Secretary Brian Agerbak putting ink to the contract.
Badminton joins a growing number of sports on the programme for Kraków-MaÅ‚opolska, after beach handball, canoe, karate, modern pentathlon and taekwondo were all confirmed in December. Kraków-MaÅ‚opolska will be the third straight edition of the European Games for badminton, following successful appearances at Baku 2015 and Minsk 2019.
