Twenty-two cheerleaders allege in a lawsuit that UCO s Office of Student Conduct didn t give them due process before banning them from national competitions for two years. The lawsuit is pending in Oklahoma City federal court.
The lawsuit contends the suspension represents a Title IX violation. It specifically alleges the university has shown a pattern of imposing harsher punishments on women s organizations than upon men s.
UCO declined to comment for this story.
The Edmond college announced the suspension on March 20 and halted all activities for the 11-time national champions for the rest of the spring semester. All cheerleaders found to have participated in hazing were permanently removed from the team.
