Jennie Allen, Bestselling Author and Speaker, Coming to OBU March 10 February 4, 2021 Jennie Allen, New York Times bestselling author of “Get Out of Your Head,” is coming to Oklahoma Baptist University March 10 for Women’s Missions and Ministry Day, an annual event promoting the profound impact women make in missions and ministry around the world every day. Allen will speak to students during the 10 a.m. chapel service. She will also headline both a ticketed breakfast at 8:30 a.m. as well as a ticketed luncheon at 11 a.m. for Women’s Missions and Ministry Day in the OBU Geiger Center. Pre-purchased tickets are required for both events.

Carol Miller-Harkins

Carol Miller-Harkins, age 81, formerly of Gray, TN, but for the last three years a resident of Governor’s Bend Assisted Living Facility in Erwin, passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2021. Carol was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Kyle (Jid) Miler, in 1996. Carol was born in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1939, while her father, Dr. Richard A. Harkins, was in med school. Her mother, Covelle G. Harkins, graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University. Carol was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, where she was a Tri-Delt Sorority Sister. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in speech therapy. After her first position within a public school system, she accepted a position with the US government dependent school system, where she taught in Guam and in Germany. While in Europe Carol met Kyle Miller, an officer with the NSA. They were married in London.

St. John Missionary Baptist Church will host a virtual seminar at 6 p.m. Jan. 29 titled "Employment Trends: How to Secure a Better Job." Organizers said the seminar is designed to offer information for people who lost their jobs due to the COVID-19, as well as those whose industries have been changed or decimated because of the pandemic. The seminar will be taught by Daryl Green, an Oklahoma Baptist University professor. Debra Johnson, a church spokeswoman, said St. John will conduct quarterly seminars to address the need for jobs in the community. Brantley returning to Bison Hill as VP for Enrollment Management The Shawnee News-Star Will Brantley, former director of admissions and director of the Graduate College at OBU, is returning to Bison Hill as vice president for enrollment management to lead the admissions and student financial services teams. He will assume his duties effective Feb. 1. Brantley departed OBU in October 2019 to serve as vice president for enrollment management and marketing at Hannibal-LaGrange University. During his tenure at HLGU, he oversaw undergraduate admissions, adult and graduate studies recruitment, nursing recruitment, and marketing and communications. He previously served at OBU from 2015 until 2019, first as director of admissions and then as director of the Graduate College. He also previously served at Union University, first as an enrollment counselor and then as a senior enrollment counselor.
