Center for Mark Twain Studies to hold lectures COURTESY OF ELMIRA COLLEGE The Center for Mark Twain Studies will hold the first of four online lectures in the spring portion of the 2020-21 The Trouble Begins Lecture Series on May 7. All four lectures will be free and available at marktwainstudies.org. The first topic, “Mark Twain s Roadshow: Travels, Travails, and the Inspirations of a Literary Giant,” will be presented by independent scholar, Laura DeMarco. DeMarco will bring lesser known stops on Twain’s travels alive by pairing historic images with modern day viewpoints of the same location from the same angle and perspective, revealing how many of the sights important to Twain are significant today, and how his legacy continues to influence American culture.

OBU Students Assist Tecumseh Chamber of Commerce with Digital Marketing

OBU students assist Tecumseh Chamber of Commerce with digital marketing Submitted/OBU Marketing students from Oklahoma Baptist University were able to help Tecumseh Chamber of Commerce with their digital marketing through a micro-internship. Three students, Dakota Jones, Lydia Birkes, and Robert Lolofie, were part of an Internet and Digital Marketing class taught by Dr. Daryl Green. Students worked with the Tecumseh Chamber of Commerce, which is a non-profit organization that provides support and resources for community businesses in the Tecumseh area. Students teamed up and worked with Executive Director Leslie Merritt to create a strong digital presence, as well as creating awareness of the chamber for the younger generation. The students were able to accomplish these goals by providing social media posts that showed Tecumseh Chamber’s brand and by creating an ad campaign. With these posts and ads, the students were able to create awareness for their client.

Provided Photo The Norman High School STUNT cheer team brought new hardware home after winning the state championship and achieving a perfect season this month. NHS, along with many other Class 6A schools, now competes in an emerging style of cheer competition that focuses on the technical skills found in cheerleading like stunts, jumps tumbling and basket tossing in a four quarter-style game between programs. In its third season competing in the sport, NHS STUNT won the state championship at Oklahoma Baptist University last weekend, capping off a perfect season with a 12-0 record.

Heller student named plaintiff in class action lawsuit against U.S. Department of Education Tristan Campbell (GRAD), a student at the Heller School for Social Policy and Management, was one of 33 named plaintiffs in a class action lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Education with hopes to eliminate the religious exemption from Title IX, which currently allows religious institutions to discriminate against LGBT students.  The lawsuit, filed by the Religious Exemption Accountability Project (REAP), references 25 religiously-affiliated institutions across the country, most of which are Christian-denominational.  “The Plaintiffs seek safety and justice for themselves and for the countless sexual and gender minority students whose oppression, fueled by government funding, and unrestrained by government intervention, persists with injurious consequences to mind, body and soul,” according to the lawsuit. “The Department’s inaction leaves students unprotected from the harms
