BHUBANESWAR: Fakir Mohan University, Balasore, will open a centre of excellence on “Bioresources Management and Energy Conservation Material Management” funded by the World Bank and the Odisha Higher Education Programme for Excellence and Equity (OHEPEE). Dinabandhu Sahoo, vice-chancellor of the university, laid the foundation stone of the centre in the campus on Thursday.
The centre at Balasore will concentrate on biodiversity assessment with special emphasis on seaweeds, mangroves, medicinal plants, micro-organisms and marine mammals. It will also study the pollution monitoring and management along with assessment of the ground and surface water quality. Besides, the team will carry out research on development of hybrid nano-composite materials for energy conservation, official sources said. The state-of-the-art centre spread over 10,000 sq ft will have world-class laboratories.
