Share Via Email   |  A+A A- By Express News Service BHUBANESWAR: The State government on Sunday deployed 60 teams of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) with high-end equipment at vulnerable places in the districts likely to be affected by the cyclonic storm. The rescue teams have been equipped with 18 satellite phones to ensure unhindered communication after the cyclone made landfall. Uninterrupted communication is one of the important aspects of disaster response. Apart from the satellite phones, ODRAF teams are equipped with 190 walkie-talkie sets, said Addl DGP (Law & Order) YK Jethwa and added that the district police are also equipped with their own wireless sets.

Cyclone Yaas: 99 NDRF teams committed across 4 states, Andaman and Nicobar ANI | Updated: May 24, 2021 11:59 IST New Delhi [India], May 24 (ANI): The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has committed 99 teams across Odisha, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the view of Cyclone Yaas, NDRF Director General SN Pradhan said on Monday. #CycloneYaas Update24/5/21 @NDRFHQ commits 99 tms Across 5States/UT 52 tms(22+30 more)-Odisha 35 tms(25+10more)WBengal Rest across AP/TN/A&N, Pradhan tweeted. As many as 18 teams NDRF teams have been deployed in Odisha alone. Seven teams have been deployed in Balasore, 4 in Bhadrak, 3 in Kendrapada, 2 in Jajpur, one each in Jagatsinghpur and Mayurbhanj. Four teams have also been kept as reserve, as per the NDRF.

Yaas is likely to cross the Odisha-West Bengal coasts between Paradip and Sagar Islands around noon on May 26 as a very severe cyclonic storm with wind speeds of 155-165 kmph, Kolkata s Regional Meteorological Centre Deputy Director Sanjib Bandopadhyay said. The system lays 540 km south-southeast of Paradip in Odisha and 630 km south-southeast of Digha in West Bengal on Monday morning and is very likely to move north-northwestwards and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by Tuesday and into a very severe cyclonic storm by Wednesday morning, the MeT Department said.
