A 44-year-old Manlius man who is already a registered sex offender is facing federal charges of distributing and possessing child pornography. Chester Hammond, whose address was not provided, was charged with distributing an image of child pornography over the internet and with possessing 400 child porn images on his cell phone, according a news release from the office of the U.S. Attorney in Syracuse. Hammond appeared today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Andrew T. Baxter and was ordered held in custody pending further hearings. If convicted, he faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years and a maximum of 40 years in prison, post-release supervision of between five years and life, and a fine of up to $250,000.

A former Syracuse University student charged with sexually assaulting two students was sent to jail on $200,000 bail after appearing Tuesday in Onondaga County Court. Jacob Cohen, 19, appeared before Onondaga County Court Judge Thomas J. Miller. After the court appearance, Cohen was sent to the Onondaga County Justice Center, where he remains behind bars on $200,000 bail. Cohen will reappear in County Court on Jan. 13.
