Measure 20-319 would replace an existing local property tax and increase it to 2.8 cents per $1,000 in assessed value. Leigh Rieder is a Master Gardener with OSU Extension. She told KLCC the current levy is set to expire.
“In other words if this one were not to pass then extension would shrink drastically,” Rieder said. “And it would be hard for it to even remain in existence because county funding is such a cornerstone of its budget.”
OSU Extension currently gets 42% of its budget from county funds. Measure 20-319 would help it serve more communities in Lane County.

In 2019, 41% of surveyed Oregon community college students experienced food insecurity. Statewide, roughly 1 in 4 Oregonians are experiencing food insecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic.
To help people put more food on the table, KLCC is hosting a virtual information session on the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP.
Community members statewide can learn best practices for applying, how to appeal your application if wrongfully denied, and other benefits people could be eligible for if they apply for the federal program.

Salem-Keizer school board candidate Kari Zohner is receiving criticism for Facebook comments she made related to George Floyd.
Tuesday evening a few hours after a jury found former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin guilty for the murder of Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man Oregon State University posted a photograph of Floyd with the years 1973-2020 written beneath his name on its official Facebook page.
By Wednesday afternoon, the post had received more than 1,000 comments, nearly 100 shares,
and varying reactions. Some Facebook users spoke up in support of the post and expressed pride in the university for sharing it. Others critiqued the university, telling them to stay in their lane, stick to posting about education, and stop the leftist indoctrination.
