STEUBENVILLE The Ohio State University Extension office of Jefferson County is accepting new applications for the Master Gardener Volunteer training program for residents of Jefferson and Harrison counties.
The Ohio State University Extension Master Gardener Volunteer program provides intensive training in horticulture to interested Ohio residents who then volunteer their time assisting with educational programs and activities for Ohio residents through their local OSU Extension county office.
Volunteers are not required to have gardening skills or knowledge, but a passion for learning about gardening and sharing this knowledge with others is a must, according to Erika Lyon, agriculture and natural resources educator, OSU Extension Jefferson and Harrison counties.

With the rapid change in spring weather, master gardeners from the Master Gardener Volunteer program at Ohio State University have tips and tricks for local gardeners on how to keep their plants healthy.
The Ohio State University Extension Master Gardener Volunteer program provides horticulture training to interested Ohio residents. Members of the program then volunteer for educational programs and activities.
Markus McCartney, the agriculture and natural resources educator at OSU, said the cold spring weather was not abnormal, and vulnerable plants should be planted later in the season.

After serving as president of the Rocky River Community Garden for the past nine years, Teresa Kowalski passed the shovel to fellow gardener David Gilronan. ROCKY RIVER, Ohio – Rocky River Community Garden achieved a milestone of 10-plus years of growth and service in the city.
Established in 2009, the garden evolved after Mayor Pam Bobst hosted a public meeting to assess interest in developing a community garden behind the Rocky River Senior Center.
