Shortage of Medical Marijuana Dispensaries in Ohio
Ohio’s Medical Marijuana Control Program reported more than 135,000 medical marijuana patients throughout the state this past year. This is significantly higher than the approximated value of 12,000-24,000 patients they had assumed they would have acquired over the past two years. This became a problem as many patients weren’t able to get to one of the 73 different locations, as some locations proved to be far too long a journey. Lorrie Callahan, a West Milton resident who uses medical marijuana said, “I’m thrilled beyond words because that’s saying they’re actually listening to the patients.”

Ohio is on track to more than double its number of medical marijuana dispensaries in a move that would increase patient access and potentially lower retail prices something Ohio s medical marijuana patients feel are too high by increasing competition.
The Ohio Board of Pharmacy, which regulates dispensaries in Ohio s Medical Marijuana Control Program, approved expanding the dispensary count by 73 at an April 19 meeting. (You can find the presentation submitted to board members in considering this action at the bottom of this story.)

Ohio Ordered To Respond To Pot Grower s Expansion Request
Law360 (March 11, 2021, 9:27 PM EST) Ohio s Supreme Court said Thursday that the state s medical marijuana regulators must act on a cultivator s application to expand its facility, rejecting the state s argument that it is only obligated to approve or deny such a request when it solicits an application.
The state Supreme Court granted a peremptory writ of mandamus in favor of Fire Rock Ltd., which submitted an application to the Ohio Department of Commerce and the Ohio Medical Marijuana Control Program requesting approval to expand its Akron-based cultivation facility in February 2020.

Petitioners ask Ohio medical board to consider new medical marijuana qualifying conditions including anxiety, autism and opioid use disorder

The State Medical Board of Ohio has received 30 petitions for potential new qualifying conditions for medical marijuana that will be considered when the board s medical marijuana committee meets on Feb. 10.
The petitions include repeat requests for conditions like ADHD, panic disorders and terminal illness, among other conditions.
The committee will review the petitions and make a recommendation to the board itself on new conditions to consider. A final vote affirming any new qualifying conditions is required by the board and is anticipated to take place sometime during the summer.
