UK Ready To Test Thousands Of Students As They Return To Campus

Credit University of Kentucky The University of Kentucky is moving forward as a campus community to battle COVID-19 for yet another semester. The 2021 Spring semester at UK will begin for students just like the Fall semester, with mandatory COVID-19 testing. “That process will be from January 14th though January 30th. We will continue to offer free testing, ongoing” said UK Spokesman Jay Blanton. He said free testing will also continue for faculty and staff along with maintenance testing of students and residence hall wastewater testing. On the vaccination front, more than 57-hundred UK HealthCare workers have gotten vaccinated which includes some faculty and students. Blanton said they are preparing for the upcoming phases which will include more of the campus community’s general population. “The state has set forth some guidelines with respect to phases of testing and so we’ll work through that. Many COVID-19 Testing Sites Report An Uptick In Appointments

Credit University of Kentucky The number of people wanting to get tested for COVID-19 before Christmas and other winter celebrations appears to have ramped up. Several clinics in central Kentucky are booked days in advance for Coronavirus testing. Micah Ehrman is one of the clinicians administering Coronavirus tests at UK’s drive-through testing site in the blue lot at Kroger Field. He says there has been a steady stream of traffic for days. “We were getting around a thousand people per day and then this weekend we were sitting around under a thousand, and then we got appointments the morning of and went well over a thousand per day. So it’s been pretty hectic, understaffed a little because some staff members are leaving for the holidays but overall it’s been running smoothly getting everyone through and tested.”
