It was more than just a courtesy call. Kresten Cook was on a mission to educate. He gave city council members a crash course on what the South Texas Military Task Force is all about. Their mission is simple and at the same time complex. The task force works to increase awareness of the military and economic value it represents to our community.

Bishop fire affects former firefighter Fire affects garage and last updated 2021-05-12 21:37:37-04 BISHOP, Texas — A fire broke out in Bishop last night at around 8 p.m. at the house of a former district fire chief for Nueces County E.S.D. 3. The fire only affected the garage and did not go into the house. When Nueces County E.S.D. 3 arrived, the garage was entirely engulfed in flames. Deputy Chief of Nueces County E.S.D 3 Burt Zimmerman said the fire could have started due to an electrical issue. He said the homeowner saw the lights flicker before the fire started. He also said the fire was not weather-related and was put out in about 15 minutes from when they got the call.

Cheers to 100 Years : Long-time Lexington volunteer celebrates 100th birthday Man of the century. That s what the Lexington Museum executive director Steve Banta likes to call Capt. Bob Batterson.  Batterson, a Pearl Harbor survivor and World War 2 fighter pilot, celebrated his 100th birthday Saturday night with a celebration aboard the Lexington.  This party is more than I deserve, I can t believe how many people are involved with this, Batterson said. I still can t believe I m having a 100th birthday party. Batterson earned his wings at Naval Air-Station Corpus Christi in 1941 and retired from the Navy in 1974. During his time stationed at Pearl Harbor, the 100-year-old was close enough to see a torpedo hit the USS Arizona during the attack. 

Blue Angels arrive in Corpus Christi ahead of Buc Days air show

As part of the Buc Days celebration, the Blue Angels will perform over downtown  Corpus Christi on Saturday and Sunday afternoon as the finale to the annual air show.  For the first time, Wings Over South Texas will take place above the Bayfront and downtown Corpus Christi. I think (doing the air show over downtown) is going to be a really cool change, said Lt. Cmdr. James Haley, pilot of Blue Angel No. 2. I m looking forward to seeing how different it is. The cool thing about flying downtown is we ll be able to be seen from a lot of different places

Navy opposes proposed zoning change in Flour Bluff and last updated 2021-04-15 20:01:08-04 CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A proposed Flour Bluff development that would build 615 apartments and additional commercial space does not have the support of the Navy. At Wednesday s Planning and Zoning Commission meeting, Naval Air Station-Corpus Christi Community Planning Liaison Officer Ben Polak gave several reasons why the Navy does not support the rezoning of approximately 40 acres at 1402 Flour Bluff Drive. It s the first rezone the navy has opposed since the Corpus Christi Independent School District s original plan for a new Mary Carroll High School, one commissioner says.
