Onslow residents could all be infected with virus by late 2021

The vaccine showed up at the right time for Onslow County.  Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, county officials have attempted to educate residents about the 3W s (wear, wait, wash) but after watching the case counts rise, those efforts look to have been partly ignored.  On Thursday, Onslow Memorial Hospital announced they had received 975 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. Nurses began administering the vaccine to employees on Friday as the county is in desperate need of a game-changer in the fight against the virus.  Since Dec. 1, the daily positive case rate has tripled. Officials announced on Dec. 2 there were 173 new positive cases. On Dec. 16, the county announced 566 positive cases. Onslow releases case updates every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Cases are counted in what is called a rolling 7-day average meaning the number is based on the day before.
