‘Marine products of great quality and quantity available for cultivation in India’
KUWAIT CITY, Jan 7: The Indian Embassy in collaboration with the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), India organized a virtual Buyer Seller Meet on Marine Products at the Indian Embassy auditorium to explore, the trade and commercial prospects, for one of India’s major resources (marine).

Addressing a select audience, HE the Indian Ambassador to Kuwait Sibi George said, with 7,516 km long coastline, India is richly endowed with an abundance of marine flora and fauna and consequently, marine products of a great quality and quantity are available for cultivation in India. Dip in demand from China, fewer containers hit seafood exports
India exported 1,289,651 tonne of seafood in 2019-20, valued at $6.68 billion. China was the largest seafood export destination for India in terms of quantity, with imports of 3,29,479 tonne worth $1,374.63 million accounting for 25.55% in quantity and 20.58% in dollar terms.
Lower demand from China and less availability of containers is likely to bring down Indian seafood exports by 20% this fiscal, Jagdish Fofandi, national president of the Seafood Exporters Association of India (SEAI), said on Friday.
He said confusion regarding the extension of the Merchandise Exports from India Scheme (MEIS) till April 2021 is also affecting the export sector.

The Prince of Arcot, Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali, has been unanimously elected the president of the Muslim Educational Association of Southern India (MEASI) for the second term. He will be the president for a three-year period.
According to a press release, the Nawab was elected president in the 118th annual general body meeting of the MEASI held on Wednesday.
Elias Sait, chartered accountant and secretary general, Seafood Exporters Association of India, and M. Haja Najimuddin, businessman, have also been elected unopposed, as honorary secretary and honorary treasurer of the association, along with other office-bearers and executive committee members.
