Energy efficient ship operation – free online course launched
IMO’s public-private partnership initiative to tackle GHG emissions, the Global Industry Alliance to Support Low Carbon Shipping (Low Carbon GIA), has launched a free to access E-Learning course aimed at seafarers and anyone interested in this aspect of shipping. The self-paced course, ‘An Introduction to Energy Efficient Ship Operation’ is intended as a first glimpse into how GHG emissions from ships can be addressed.
The online course, designed by e-learning specialist Ocean Technologies Group, features videos, text information, quizzes and more for an interactive experience. Each module includes interactive lessons, resources for additional learning as well as a final summary. The course is specifically designed to be accessible to non-technical audiences. It was developed and funded by the Low Carbon GIA, a partnership under the framework of the IMO-Norway GreenVoyage2050 Project.

• Order intake was stable at EUR 1,244 million (1,247)
• Order book at the end of the period decreased by 6% to EUR 5,399 million (5,745)
• Net sales decreased by 19% to EUR 946 million (1,170)
• Book-to-bill amounted to 1.32 (1.07)
• Comparable operating result decreased by 28% to EUR 41 million (56), which represents 4.3% of net sales (4.8). This includes approximately EUR 20 million net provisions arising from a detailed project risk review in Wärtsilä Energy.
• Operating result decreased by 30% to EUR 36 million (52), which represents 3.8% of net sales (4.5)
Apr 15 2021 Ocean Technologies Group (OTG) is putting the spotlight on competency management with a series of initiatives to help ship operators and owners choose the right options for their crews and fleets. OTG’s learning brands have a wealth of experience in both the design and implementation of Competency Management Systems (CMS) and in developing industry recognized competency standards. In the coming weeks OTG will be sharing the insights and experience of its in-house experts, partners and customers using social media posts, blogs, editorial and free workshops. It will also be issuing a series of competency packs comprising of specific proficiencies across key competency areas that can be used to help build and assess seafarer knowledge, skills and behaviours.
