Police Rescue Eleven People at Sea in Western Province

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RISPF) at Gizo Police Station in Western Province have rescued eleven people drifting at sea between Choiseul and Western Province on 10 January 2021.
Commissioner of Police Mostyn Mangau says, “The eleven people were on board a ray boat powered by 40 horse powered engine. They left Tunoe Village, Katurasele in South Choiseul to Gizo after Christmas and New Year Holiday. While travelling on the fine sea they encountered mechanical problem with their engine and drifted.”

Two climbers have been rescued from an altitude of 1800 metres in Aoraki / Mt Cook National Park.

One of them of badly injured.
The Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre said the climbers were caught in a rock slide in steep terrain last night.
Search co-ordinator Neville Blackmore said the pair, a man and a woman in their 50s, activated the distress function on their GPS tracker, which may well have saved the injured climber s life.
