Commissioner of Police Mostyn Mangau says, “The eleven people were on board a ray boat powered by 40 horse powered engine. They left Tunoe Village, Katurasele in South Choiseul to Gizo after Christmas and New Year Holiday. While travelling on the fine sea they encountered mechanical problem with their engine and drifted.”

Two climbers have been rescued from an altitude of 1800 metres in Aoraki / Mt Cook National Park.
