Theresa Villiers looks for event support among other MPs

Theresa Villiers MP, chair of the APPG, has written to other MPs who have been identified as having mutual issues of interest, and where she believes further collaboration could be useful. MPs with interests in sport, music, business travel, theatre, nightime economy and aerospace have been approached. In her letter, Villiers wrote: “At a time when the conference and events sector has been devastated by the Covid outbreak, it is more important than ever that we have this group working in Parliament to speak up for this crucial part of our economy. I am getting in touch on the basis that there are areas where your APPG has a mutual interest, and it would be good to discuss how we might collaborate.”

I’m not good enough to write a song that even my own kids would sing with any seriousness, but a single word is easier, especially if it has political resonance.

What is the BVEP, and what has it done during the Covid-19 pandemic?

You may have read a lot about the Business Visits and Events Partnership, often abbreviated as the BVEP, but do you actually know what they do? The BVEP plays an important role in advocating for the events industry and, together with its association members, known as partners, lobbies and communicates directly with Government. What is the BVEP? The BVEP is an ‘umbrella organisation , representing other events industry trade associations to Government. It says its vision is to support sustainable growth for the UK’s events industry. It represents all aspects of the events industry, including those operating within conferences, meetings, exhibitions, trade shows, festivals, music, and more.
