Minister Noonan announces funds for Kilkenny landmark heritage projects Over €350,000 in funding for local projects Minister Malcolm Noonan );   ); Minister of State for Heritage and Electoral Reform; Malcolm Noonan has announced funding for this year’s Historic Structures Fund and the good news is that three Kilkenny city projects are included in the allocation.  Rothe House is to receive €50,000, Shee Alms House on Rose Inn Street is to receive €150,000 over two years and Tynan’s Bridge House Bar is to receive €15,000 under a new element of the fund for heritage shopfronts.  Rose Cottage in Johnswell is also a recipient of €10,000 to repair the corrugated roof structure. Shankill Castle received €50,000, The Heritage Council €42,500 and Kells House €37,000.

Recipients include thatched cottages in Nurney and Caragh, a burial Church of Ireland building in Monasterevin and the family vault of patriot Henry Grattan in Celbridge. Minister of State for Heritage Malcolm Noonan announced that 477 heritage projects will benefit from a total of €3m under this year’s Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS). The money is aimed at supporting owners and custodians of historic and protected structures to safeguard and maintain their properties.

Almost € 95,000 announced for Offaly s built heritage Reporter: );   ); 24 projects across Offaly received a total of € 94,800 under the Built Heritage Investment Scheme 2021. The BHIS is one of two built heritage funding schemes run by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage in association with 31 local authorities.  Through grants of up to €15,000, the BHIS assists owners of heritage structures – including those on the local authorities’ Record of Protected Structures and those in Architectural Conservation Areas – to meet their obligations to care for their properties. The scheme is not limited to private dwellings and also provides assistance to a wide range of other important heritage structures including an early concrete bridge in Birr.

Funding of €94,800 has been granted for 10 heritage projects in Louth under this year’s Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS). The Century bar on Roden Place in town was granted €15,000 funding for roof repair, structures and coverings including leadwork. Other buildings that received funding include Bellews Castle, which was granted €10,000, Tudor Lodge in Ardee, Co. Louth €5,715, Mooremount Thatch in Dunleer €12,420, 2 Ardee Terrace, Dundalk €1,375. Fianna Fáil Senator for Louth, Erin McGreehan, welcomed the funding, saying: “I am delighted that these buildings have been awarded this funding.
