Stonington The town has announced that beginning Monday residents and contractors can apply for building permits online.
The town said its has partnered with OpenGov to provide building permitting software to drive efficiency for staff and improve the quality and convenience of services for community members.
While the online service will begin Monday, the town said the Building Department will continue to accept paper applications for two months. But the town strongly urged people to use the online service as those who file paper applications may experience processing delays.

The City of Key West is accepting applications for the Heritage Tree program, a program created to identify trees of special significance to the people in the city.
Applications are currently being accepted through July 31. Applications can be found at http://www.cityofkeywest-fl.gov; just go to the Heritage Tree program link in the search engine to download the application. They are also available in the Building Department at City Hall, 1300 White St.
Applications can be submitted for trees located on either public or private property.

The tip of a house on West Lake Avenue shows damage from a fire that destroyed the home in December 2018.
ALPENA A home left standing more than two years after a fire on Alpena’s north side is not a safety hazard, according to city officials.
The two-story home on West Lake Street burned the day after Christmas, 2018, when the upper story caught fire in the early hours of the morning.
All residents and pets escaped unharmed.
The home, though badly damaged, is structurally sound, and the city has allowed the homeowner time to be in a position to have it demolished, according to Alpena Mayor Matt Waligora.
