OSCE Secretary General Schmid to visit JFO area in eastern Ukraine this week

OSCE Secretary General Helga Maria Schmid will visit Ukraine this week for meetings with high-level Ukrainian officials and travel to the Joint Forces Operation (JFO) area, according to a report on the OSCE website. Schmid plans to hold talks with senior-level officials, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine Oleksii Reznikov, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, and Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament Dmytro Razumkov. The talks will focus on the crisis in and around Ukraine and on ways to strengthen co-operation between the OSCE and Ukraine, the report reads.

KYIV, 19 May 2021 The Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office in Ukraine and in the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG), Ambassador Heidi Grau, made the following statement to the press after the regular meetings of the TCG and its Working Groups were held through video conferencing:
“The ceasefire violations remain on a high level. The increased use of heavy weapons deployed in violation of the withdrawal lines also causes serious concern. Moreover, the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine (SMM) has recorded ceasefire violations in close vicinity and inside disengagement areas.

On 6 May, the SMM was conducting an announced SMM long-range unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) flight. The UAV had taken off from its base in government-controlled Stepanivka (54km north of Donetsk) at 12:30 and had immediately experienced dual GPS signal interference, assessed as caused by jamming, which then had occurred at intervals during the flight. At 16:01, while flying over areas near Kolosky (non-government-controlled, 46km south-east of Donetsk), the UAV had again experienced dual GPS signal interference, assessed as caused by jamming, which continued uninterrupted for the remainder of the flight.

ANKARA Relations between Turkey and the US could suffer after US President Joe Biden s unlawful and unacceptable statement recognizing the so-called Armenian genocide, said Turkish senior presidential advisor Gulnur Aybet in an article on Saturday, underlining that without Turkey, regional stability was out of the question.
Aybet wrote an article on Turkish-American relations for the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), one of the UK’s respected think tanks.
Stating that the current problems between Turkey and the US differed from the occasional tensions since the 1960s, Aybet said Turkey emerged as a power that changed the realities on the ground at a time when global power balances were shifting.
