The ubiquitous US artist Jeff Koons gets his first major show in the Middle East this autumn as part of the Qatar-USA 2021 Year of Culture initiative. The show, entitled
Jeff Koons: Lost in America
(dates to be confirmed) takes place at the QM Gallery Al Riwaq in Doha, following in the footsteps of UK artist Damien Hirst who had a large-scale exhibition at the same space in 2013.
“Curated by Massimiliano Gioni [the artistic director of New York’s New Museum],
Lost in America features more than 60 works drawn from Koons’s four-decades-long career, with each gallery introduced by an autobiographical text, compiled from interviews, statements, and quotes by the artist, emphasising his memories, influences and fascination with American visual culture,” says a press statement. The show is organised by the government authority, Qatar Museums.

Qatar-USA 2021 Year of Culture yesterday revealed a wide-ranging programme comprising exhibitions, festivals, bilateral exchanges, and events to be held in both nations throughout the year.
The Qatar-USA 2021 Year of Culture program; which is a partnership between Qatar Museums (QM), the United States Embassy in Doha and the Embassy of Qatar in the United States; will feature virtual and in-person events, including exhibitions and installations of works by Qatari and American artists; events showcasing the music, film, and fashion of both countries; sporting events; culinary experiences; entrepreneurship, innovation, STEM, and business events; and educational programs.
All past, present, and future exhibitions, programs, and events will be featured on the official Years of Culture website, http://www.yearsofculture.qa/, where one can find the latest information and details about upcoming events.

Doha: Stunning, diverse, and thought-provoking art pieces created by 18 Qatari and American artists are on display at “What If?” exhibition which opened on Saturday at W Doha’s Art 29 gallery.
Curated by Qatari artist and art ambassador Muna Al Bader, the show features dozens of unique artworks that reveal how the artists live and look at life at this crucial time expressed in different media such as paintings, installations and mixed media.
