CHRISTMAS came early for a heroic Offaly when they booked a place in the Leinster Minor Football Championship final with a superb win over Kildare in Newbridge today.
Offaly 2-10
Kildare 2-7
Playing with tremendous heart and character, it was Offaly s best win at this level in years. They had to work so hard for the result but they answered everything that Kildare threw at them and there was absolutely no disputing the merit of the win.
Only three points separated the sides at the end of an engrossing high intensity game of football but Offaly were definitely the better team and could have won with more comfort. They ended up hanging on a bit and were relieved to hear the final whistle but they still closed out the deal with a degree of comfort.

Westmeath s shock win over Dublin means Offaly play them next Sunday in the Leinster minor hurling semi final, probably in Mullingar.
Offaly 1-18
Kildare 0-9
Finding themselves 0-4 to 0-1 behind after twelve minutes, it looked like it could be one of those days for Offaly. They started so badly, struggling to find any momentum and with their touch and intensity well below the levels reached in their impressive first round win over Laois – Kildare were clearly the better side early on and it looked like they might be able to repeat last year s win over Offaly.

IT was far from as simple or straightforward as the final scoreline might suggest but Offaly still did really well to advance to a semi-final meeting with Kildare when they got the better of Wicklow in the Leinster Minor Football Championship in Bord na Mona O Connor Park.

Wicklow 0-9
In an engrossing, compelling game of football between two very honest sides, Offaly rallied superbly in the closing quarter to wrestle back the initiative in a match that looked to be slipping from their grasp in the third quarter.
