What makes you the best candidate? I am a retired Pennsylvania State Trooper who has seen firsthand the value of education whether it be the advancement for college or the vocational side. My wife teaches within the district, and we have one child that has graduated and two children that currently attend. I also currently serve as Chief for the Cumberland County District Attorney s Office, Narcotics Division. I am responsible for full and part time employees along with all the budget and operational constraints that arise in both. In addition, I currently serve as President of the Gettysburg Area School Board.

The District Attorney’s Office is seeking an Assistant District Attorney for Cumberland County.
This Assistant District Attorney will be primarily responsible for criminal prosecution for both adults and juveniles in the Unified Criminal Docket, as well as appellate cases before the Law Court. Candidates should have a strong desire for a career in litigation and good writing skills are essential. Trial experience and developed trial skills a plus. High ethical standards, sound judgment, strong communication and inter-personal skills, and good organizational/time management skills are essential. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation is required.

A former Bath sheriff’s deputy arrested for domestic violence assault in 2019 has agreed to a deal that would dismiss the charge in 18 months if he follows the terms of the agreement.
Matthew Shiers, 37, of Bath, was arrested in June 2019 by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office after he was accused of strangling his live-in girlfriend during an argument at his home in West Bath. He was employed as a deputy with the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office at the time.
Shiers agreed to plead guilty to domestic violence assault, a Class D misdemeanor punishable by up to 364 days incarceration and a $2,000 fine. If he follows the requirements of the agreement, he can withdraw that plea in 18 months and plead guilty to a lesser charge of reckless conduct instead. He is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 14, 2022.
