Security personnel to be deployed to building rooftops

Advertisement The government will deploy security personnel on all rooftops of Kampala’s arcades and tall buildings to ensure security in the capital as Ugandans go to the polls today. Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango said the security decision was informed by violent protests in and around Kampala in November. He said police intelligence and CCTV footage analysis indicated that people who were leading the rioters operated on rooftops of arcades to give instructions to the protesters.

Military police take over arcade rooftop security

According to the Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, following CCTV footage analysis in recent days, security personnel on ground have been targeted by unscrupulous people at arcade rooftops. Onyango says in such incidents, a one Elijah Mukiibi has succumbed to gunshot wounds inflicted on him by security officers. He maintains the move is NOT aimed at intimidating Ugandans in anyway. Onyango has also singled out an incident that happened along Nabukeera Auto parts arcade where officers on ground were allegedly pelted with stones. Meanwhile, the chairperson Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA) Everest Kayondo says they are okay with the development as it’s intended to strengthen security.
