Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has expressed alarm over the surge of new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in Metro Manila recently, particularly in her city.
“Unfortunately, the question of a possible surge is not a matter of how, but of when. Looks like Metro Manila is in that direction where a second wave is possible soon and we must proactively do our part in stopping that possibility,” Belmonte said in a statement after learning that Quezon City’s COVID-19 reproduction number already reached 1.15, which is above the 1.00 threshold.
Belmonte is also alarmed after noting that there are indicators that the city’s new COVID-19 cases are rising starting this month, particularly from December 7 to 13 when there are about 80 new cases daily.
