Kiran Bakale Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) and Hospital, which received accolades for its service in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, on Saturday received medical equipments worth ₹5.5 crore under Corporate Social Responsibility funds of public sector undertakings.
Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Coal and Mines Pralhad Joshi symbolically handed over the equipment at a function in Hubballi and lauded the doctors and paramedical staff for their commendable job in fighting the pandemic. While Coal India Ltd. has donated medical equipment worth ₹5 crore, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. has donated equipment worth ₹50 lakh.
Udupi district poised to get government medical college soon

Udupi, Dec 18: MLA K Raghupati Bhat, revealed that a meeting was held with officials at Bengaluru about drawing up of a plan to set up government medical college in the district. He noted that the district has only a private medical college as of now. At the meeting of the government assurances committee held at Vidhana Soudha on Thursday, discussions were held with the officials about the pending assurances. The proposal to set up a government medical college here came in for specific mention. The attention of the officials was drawn towards the need to meet this assurance, he added.
Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in Hubballi
HUBBALLI: Its hand full with tackling the pandemic, the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in Hubballi was unable to proceed on schedule to complete the comprehensive diabetic care project. But for the Covid-19 crisis, the diabetic centre in the hospital’s OPD wing would have been functional by now.
The plan to set up a comprehensive diabetic care unit at KIMS was conceived of three years ago, and the hospital administrators had been confident of having the wing ready for full-fledged operations at the outpatient department of the gynaecology wing. The OPD of the gynaecology block was to be shifted.
A pharmacy in Hubballi began collecting swabs on Friday
HUBBALLI: The Hubballi-Dharwad district administration has roped in private medicals shops for collection of swabs for Covid-19 testing. In a pilot project, around 10 medical shops will start collecting swabs.
In Hubballi, one medical shop started collecting swabs from Friday.
Now, persons who suspect they have Covid-19 need not to visit the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences, Dharwad district hospital, Chitaguppi Hospital, or taluk hospitals or look for mobile swab collection centres. They can give the sample at the nearest pharmacy.
The aim of the district administration is to enhance Covid testing, and identify the disease at the earliest stage so that the patient recovers without developing any complications.
