A yellow alert has been sounded in the coastal and Malnad regions of Karnataka as the upper air cyclonic circulation brought heavy showers in many parts of the state on Thursday. The Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority has sounded a yellow alert for Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu and Shivamogga for the next two days. The KSDMA in a statement said that most districts of Karnataka state are likely to receive fairly widespread to widespread with light to moderate rains and at isolated places heavy to very heavy rains associated with thunder activity during the next 48 hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said heavy to very heavy rainfall was observed at isolated places over Kerala and Mahe while heavy rainfall also occurred over isolated coastal and south interior Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema.

The current spell of widespread unseasonal rains have added to the woes of coffee growers in Karnataka, who are in the midst of harvesting 2020-21 crop.
The rains have not only triggered the fruit split and droppings in the standing crop, but have also raised the risk of early blossoms, which could dent the next year’s crop prospects.

BENGALURU: In a one-of-its-kind incident, judges of the Karnataka High Court were surprised to hear a petition filed by five-month-old Kian Medhi Kumar, to ban traffic movement inside the city’s prime lung space, Cubbon Park.The petition has given a fillip to all those campaigning for a traffic-free Cubbon Park, demanding that the government ban thoroughfare to save the last few lung spaces in Bengaluru.
The petitioner is being represented by his father Rakesh Prabal Kumar, an HR professional. Kumar is a resident of Connaught Road and visits Cubbon Park every day, and brings Kian every week to enjoy its environs.The judges were pleasantly surprised at the petitioner and even wondered whether Kian had even visited Cubbon Park.
