Beary sammelana to be held in Ullal on March 27

Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy will host a Beary Sahitya and Samskritika Sammelana at Ullal on March 27, said academy chairman Rahim Uchil.
Addressing presspersons on Friday, he said the event would be organised at Madani PU College. Poet Ali Kunhi Pare will be the president of the sammelana. Social activist Harekala Hajabba will inaugurate it. There will be two literary sessions and two ‘kavi gosthis’. In addition, speech, cooking, and mehandi competitions will be conducted. In all, 15 achievers will be felicitated. The academy has plans for a Vishwa Beary Sammelana.

Mangalore University has proposed to introduce certificate and diploma courses on Beary art forms from the 2021-22. Beary is an ethnic Muslim community, concentrated largely in coastal Karnataka, with its own distinct traditions and language.
The university issued a notification on January 28 constituting a committee for drafting the curriculum and regulations to introduce the courses. The committee is headed by Udaya Barkuru, Dean, Faculty of Arts.
Rahim Uchil, chairman, Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy, said that on September 16, 2020, the academy had written to the university requesting it to introduce the courses covering Beary art forms like Duff, Burda, Oppane, Kolkali and Mehendi. If courses are introduced on Beary art forms they would help to sustain the art forms, he said.

Mangaluru, Dec 29: Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy chairman Rahim Uchil on Tuesday December 29 alleged that Mangaluru constituency MLA U T Khader and former chairman of the Beary Sahitya Academy B A Mohammed Hanif are creating unnecessary confusion among people over the construction of Beary Sahitya Academy office and Samskrithika Bhavan at Thokottu.
Speaking at Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy office here, Rahim said, The foundation stone laying programme for the construction of Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy office building on a 25-cent land at Thokottu was scheduled on January 1 but we have postponed it.

It has sanctioned ₹ 6 crore for the building and of this amount, it has released ₹ 3 crore
The State government has sanctioned 0.25 acre land to Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy to construct a Beary Bhavan at Thokkottu. The foundation stone for the building will be laid soon, according to chairman of the academy Rahim Uchil.
The government has sanctioned ₹ 6 crore for building the bhavan. Of this amount, ₹ 3 crore has been released.
Earlier, the academy had purchased 0.25 acres from Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) for building the Beary Bhavan at Baiturli village near Neerumarga.
