Flex Alert issued for Wednesday afternoon, urging power conservation -

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – With above-normal temperatures in the forecast, particularly in Northern California, the manager of the state’s power grid issued a Flex Alert that will take effect Wednesday afternoon, calling for voluntary electricity conservation. According to the California Independent System Operator, the Flex Alert will be in effect from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday “due to predicted high energy demand and tight supplies across the West.” Cal-ISO specifically cited high temperatures in the forecast in interior sections of Northern California. According to the National Weather Service, inland areas of San Diego and Riverside counties will see high temperatures only slightly above normal on Wednesday and Thursday.

Statewide Flex Alert issued for Wednesday from 4 p m to 9 p m

Print The California Independent System Operator, which manages the electric grid for about 80 percent of the state and a small portion of Nevada, has issued a statewide Flex Alert from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday because of predictions of high energy demand and tight energy supplies across the West. “With higher than normal temperatures in the forecast for parts of interior Northern California, the power grid operator is predicting an increase in electricity demand, primarily from air conditioning use,” the grid operator, known as the CAISO for short, said in a news release. “The increase can make electricity supplies tight and cause strain on our power grid.”
