Some 700 nurses in the Massachusetts Nurses Association (MNA) at St. Vincent Hospital are in the sixth week of their strike against unsafe staffing ratios in Worcester, Massachusetts, the most important struggle of health care workers in the US. St. Vincent is owned by Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare, a multibillion-dollar corporation that operates 65 hospitals across the country and is using the strike in Worcester to hold the line on staffing ratios to boost their bottom line. Nurses notify Barton Health of their intent to strike for two days

By Paula Peterson SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The California Nurses Association (CNA) served Barton Health this week with a ten-day notice of their registered nurses (RNs) intent to strike for two days, April 16-17, 2021. This will be the third time the RNs have given Barton a notice they d be on strike since they ve been meeting to iron out a contract. They had two one-day strikes in 2019. Barton will continue to be open during the strike. Even though the nurses said they were going on a two-day strike, replacement nurses need to be hired and their minimum contract is for five days. The Barton RNs won t be able to return to work until April 21.

New law for PPE stocks in California Hospitals across the USA failed to provide nurses and other health care workers with optimal PPE when Covid-19 hit. 7th April 2021 The bill, AB 2537, has been welcomed by its sponsor the California Nurses Association (CNA). “Hospitals across the country failed to provide nurses and other health care workers with optimal PPE when Covid-19 hit and the consequences were devastating and deadly,” said Cathy Kennedy, president of the CNA. “At least 360 nurses have died from Covid-19 and tens of thousands more became sick during this pandemic. Hospitals have a responsibility to ensure that their employees have the equipment they need to stay safe. This new law is an important step in holding hospitals accountable and protecting nurses and other health care workers.”

Dr Akilah Weber draws $925K in donations, PAC money for 79th race

San Diego    As the 79th Assembly race heads to a vote on Tuesday, Dr. Akilah Weber has far outpaced her opponents in fund-raising, amassing more than $380,000 in her candidate account, while a political committee supporting her has raised $545,000. That $925,000 total is more than three times what her four opponents raised combined. The only other candidate to clear six figures was the sole Republican, Marco Contreras, a local business owner. He raised about $146,000 in his candidate fund, mostly from medium to large donations from businesses and individuals. Among the other three Democrats running, labor organizer Leticia Munguia raised just over $74,000. Teacher Shane Parmely brought in nearly $23,000, and restorative justice consultant Aeiramique Glass trailed with $6,320.
