Detective Ryan Park, 32, and his wife, Detective Jamie Huntley-Park, 33, of the San Diego Police Department were among three people killed on Friday morning in a fiery head-on collision.
OCEANSIDE
The trailer of a big rig overturned on a south Interstate 5 on-ramp in Oceanside late Thursday morning, snarling traffic for six hours, authorities said.
The trailer flipped on the Harbor Drive on-ramp, landing on part of the ramp and the two right lanes of south I-5 about 11:30 a.m. Only the trailer overturned, and the driver wasn’t hurt, California Highway Patrol Officer Jim Bettencourt said.
One of the two freeway lanes was cleared and re-opened about 4:20 p.m.
The slow lane and the on-ramp remained blocked off to traffic until about 5:20 p.m., with traffic backed up for miles on south I-5 and around Harbor Drive. One driver reported that traffic on Harbor Drive was “a mess,” according to the CHP.
MIRAMAR
One person was killed and two others were injured Monday afternoon when a Jeep veered off Interstate 15 and slammed into a tree in Miramar, authorities said.
The apparent solo-vehicle crash happened about 4:15 p.m. when the SUV went off the right side of the freeway’s southbound lanes just south of Miramar Road for unknown reasons, California Highway Patrol Officer Jim Bettencourt said.
One person inside the Jeep died at the scene, according to Bettencourt and San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokeswoman Mónica Muñoz.
Medics took two other people from the vehicle to Sharp Memorial Hospital, Muñoz said. One was transported as a critical-status patient and the other with less serious injuries.
